About Us
The Story Behind Little White Shed
Little White Shed began its life in (you guessed it) a little white shed tucked away in the heart of Devon in 2022, but its story was decades in the making. Founded by designer and craftsman, Chris Standford, the company grew out of a lifelong relationship with design, craft, and wood. Before opening the doors to Little White Shed, Chris spent more than two decades teaching design, with a particular focus on working with wood—sharing not just technical skills, but a deep respect for materials, process, and thoughtful making. Those years shaped a belief that well-designed objects should be functional, beautiful, and built to last, while ensuring an environmentally ethical approach.
What began as a quiet workshop has grown into a creative studio dedicated to crafting beautifully made, bespoke and personalised homeware and furniture. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and made using ethically sourced materials, with a strong belief that high-quality craftsmanship shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for the few.
Set against the rural landscape of Devon, Little White Shed reflects a more considered approach to making. Every piece begins with an appreciation for ethically sourced materials and traditional craftsmanship, combined with a contemporary design. The workshop ethos is simple: quality should never be compromised, and affordability should not come at the cost of integrity. By keeping production small-scale and hands-on, Little White Shed is able to maintain close control over every detail, from the selection of timber to the final finish.
